Permit & Carry Requirements

Arizona is a constitutional carry state requiring no permit for eligible persons 21 and older to carry concealed. Open carry is permitted without a permit. Arizona also issues a voluntary Concealed Weapons Permit (CWP) through the Department of Public Safety for reciprocity purposes when traveling to permit-required states.

Reciprocity

Arizona has broad reciprocity and honors concealed carry permits from all other US states. The Arizona CWP is recognized by a large number of states nationwide, making it one of the most useful voluntary permits to obtain. Non-residents 21 and older may also carry under Arizona's constitutional carry law.

Prohibited Locations

Arizona prohibits carry in polling places during elections, schools and school grounds, nuclear and hydroelectric generating stations, military installations, correctional facilities, and establishments that serve alcohol for on-premises consumption unless the carrier does not consume alcohol. Private businesses may also prohibit firearms on their premises.

NFA Items in Arizona

Arizona permits all federally-legal NFA items including suppressors, SBRs, and SBSs. Arizona has no state-level NFA restrictions beyond federal requirements. The elimination of the $200 NFA tax stamp effective January 1, 2026 has made acquiring suppressors and other NFA items more accessible for Arizona residents.
